2023 ATHLETE GUIDE

 The New Jersey Devil 100 starts at 6am on TBD at the Lake Absegami Day Use Area in Bass River State Forest.

*Update as of 1/25/24 - This race will not take place in April 2024*

Race Date & Start time: 4/22/23 6am

Packet Pickup: Packet Pick up will take place on race morning near the start from 4:30am-5:45am

**no one is permitted to enter Bass River State Forest prior to 4am** doing so, will result in disqualification as this is a condition of our permit.
Other Details: THERE ARE NO REFUNDS, DEFERALS OR TRANSFERS. No dogs.

 All participants will park at the Lake Absegami Day Use Parkng Lot in Bass River State Forest. which is the start/finish location.

Directions to Parking

From the Garden State Parkway:Take exit 52 for New Gretna. Turn right onto Route 654/E Greenbush Road. After 1 mi, turn right onto Stage Road. Continue on Stage Road for 0.8 mi, then turn left into the Bass River State Forest. Drive straight back for .4 mi and park in the Lake Absegami Day Use Area lot on the right .

From the North by US-206:

Head south on US-206 and make a left onto 530 E. After 2.7 mi, turn right onto Magnolia Road. At the traffic circle, take the second exit onto 72 E. After 3.5 mi, turn right onto 563. After 13.7 mi, you will reach a fork in the road. Make a slight left onto 679. Go 5.7 mi then make a slight left onto 653/Leektown Road. After 1.1 mi, continue onto Stage Road. Drive 1.2 mi on Stage Road, then turn left into Bass River State Forest. Drive straight back for .4 mi and park in the Lake Absegami Day Use Area lot on the right .

From the West by NJ-70:

Take NJ-70 East to intersection with US-206.  At traffic circle take the 1st exit onto US-206 South.  After 14.7 miles turn left onto Middle Road (Route 613).  After 1.3 miles turn left onto Myrtle Street.  After 0.2 miles make slight left onto Columbia Road (Route 693).  Follow 693 for 2.7 miles then turn left onto Nesco Road (Route 542). Follow 542 for 13.5 miles.  Bear left on Leektown Road (Route 653) and follow it for 2.7 miles.  Merge onto State Road and follow it for 1.1 miles to a left turn into Bass River State Forest.  Drive straight back for .4 mi and park in the Lake Absegami Day Use Area lot on the right .

 The trail is marked with pink ribbons with reflective ends, pink pin flags, and Beast Coast Productions branded directional signs. The Batona Trail is also marked with pink blazes on the trees. We do our best to place confidence markers every .10/mile. All turns will be marked with at least 3 ribbons/flags  into and out of the turn. All trail crossings will be clearly marked with ribbon and flags. 

 There will be eight well stocked aid stations with standard ultra fare including, but not limited to: water, Gatorade, soda,  pretzels, candy, chips etc. 

Portable toilets will be located at the start/finish and the following aid stations: Evan's Bridge, Washington Road, Batona Campground (at the road crossing), Route 532, Coopers Road, and Mt. Misery.

Drop bags will be available at 3 aid stations along the  course: Evan’s Bridge, Batona Campground and Mt. Misery. 

100 mile runners will pass the Evan's Bridge (mile 11.2 and 89.0) and Batona Campground (mile 32.9 and 67.2) stations on the way out and back in. and will also pass Mt. Misery at 50.0.

Size: Drop bags should be soft sided, waterproof and durable. A small backpack or gear bag no larger than 9"x9"x18" will be sufficient. Race staff will not transport unreasonably large or unwieldy bags.

Timing: Drop bags must be in place at Lake Absegami Day Use Area by 5:45am.

Participants should clearly label their drop bags with their NAME and AID STATION/MILEAGE and leave them at the Start.  All bags will make their way to the Finish line as aid stations close down.  

The New Jersey Devil 100 is not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged bags and belongings. 

100 Mile runners can utilize pacers starting at the Mt. Misery aid station (mile 50) . A runner may only have 1 pacer running with them at any given time. 

The course time limit is 30 hours.

All participants must be finished by Noon on 4/23/23.

• 4/22 3:45pm - Batona Campground outbound (mile 32.9)
• 4/22 10:30pm - Coopers Road inbound (mile 55.0)
• 4/23 2:15am - Batona Campground (mile 67.2)
• 4/23 6:20am - Washington Road inbound (mile 82.1)
• 4/23 8:40am - Evan's Bridge inbound (mile 89.0)
• 4/23 Noon - Finish

Cutoff times have been implemented for the safety of participants and volunteers. No participants will be permitted to leave an aid station after the cutoff has passed. NO EXCEPTIONS. 

Race Swag for all registered participants, Top 3 Overall Male & Female will receive custom awards. Buckles for all finishers who finish within the 30 hour time limit.

Near the Start: Camping is available in the Brendan T. Byrne State Forest, which is located approximately 15 minutes from the start. Tent campsites and yurts are available. Click here for more information. 

Near the Finish: Camping is available at Pilgrim Lake Campground and Bass River State Forest.
